Well, I am back! This summer working at Fort Bluff Camp has been, well... interesting, to say the least. By the second week I was seriously ready to go home. Very few people have been able to upset me enough that I hyperventilate, but Naomi Crain was able to. Just once, but still.... Working there this summer was not in the least what I expected it to be. It was hard, exhausting, and at times extremely discouraging, especially when we couldn’t apparently do anything at all right according to Mrs. Crain.... But what made it all worth it was all the kids and teens that were saved there this summer. We had a junior camp in June, and at least 89 kids were saved that week! That was so awesome! Counting the number of people that were saved during the 3 teen weeks, over 200 people were saved! And that’s not counting the Awana weeks and other camps and retreats. I don’t regret finishing out the summer instead of going home early, but I’ve seen enough of how the camp is run that I don’t want to go back to work there again. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
I made some great friends this summer. There was “three-timing” Amanda and her crazy sister Stephanie. I love them. :) There were Lora and my roommate Megan, both of whom were great to talk with about the more serious stuff. There were Lee and Dan, the future preachers that were so much fun to hang out and talk with. There was the songwriter and poet Josh, who was heartbroken by Amanda the three-timer. I was their “marriage counselor.” Haha. Sorry, inside joke that nobody reading this will get. I’m going to miss everyone so much! I’m going to miss the talks, the jokes, the “monkey” (another inside joke that nobody will get), staying up ‘til 2 in the morning at the football field to watch a comet and then going back to the dorms and staying up singing and taking pictures and stuff until 4, then having to get up for breakfast 2 hours later, and so much more. And I’ll of course miss the people. Some of them, anyway.
Josh gave me a really sweet note that almost made me cry when everyone was exchanging phone numbers and addresses and stuff. This is what it said:
Summer days, summer nights, sunrises and sunsets
New friends, new beginnings, memories I’ll never forget
Goodbyes are near, and pretty soon they’ll turn into tears
Let’s not forget the times we shared and just know we’ll meet again
I love you with all my heart and these friendships I’ll take to my heart
Our time is drawing near, slowly it’s becoming time for us to part
Always remember I’ll be with you in spirit wherever you are.
Joshua Allen Colvin
I can’t seem to convince my mom and aunt that Josh and I are just friends. We really are! The poem may make it sound like something more, but it’s not. *exhasperated sigh*
Anyway, overall I have had a pretty good summer. I guess I have a lot to talk about, but nothing I can really think of to write on here... if I put everything that went on this summer in this entry, it would take days to write. So that’s all for now. I hope everyone else’s summer has gone well.
Love ya!
